Because liposuction surgery is a body sculpting technique, end results are measured primarily by the patient's satisfaction.
The most successful and only true indicated use for liposuction is to eliminate stubborn pockets of fat resistant to diet and exercise. It is neither appropriate nor safe for use as a general weight loss tool.
It is important to note that, during the healing process, you usually do not see a measurable loss of fat. This is due to the combined effect of retained fluids following tumescent liposuction and to post-operative swelling. The majority of your results will be visible by four weeks after surgery, when the majority of your swelling has gone down. The final results of the procedure usually become evident within six to twelve months following the surgery, after your skin has tightened up.
A healthy diet and routine exercise are the keys to long-term satisfaction with liposuction. For example: Patients who eat a healthy diet are two times more likely to have weight loss after surgery. Those who exercise regularly are one and a half times more likely to have weight loss. Those patients with a good diet and routine exercise program are 15 times more likely to have a decrease in clothing size and be satisfied with surgery.
In contrast, patients with poor diet and no routine exercise are 3-4 times more likely to gain weight and 10 times more likely be dissatisfied with surgery.
